The signs of photo-aging and sun damage affect both men and women and start to appear on the skin from age thirty onward. Many of the skin changes commonly associated with aging resulting from sun exposure include some or all of the following:
Changes in skin pigmentation such as freckles, melasma, uneven skin tone, pigmented skin patches of various sizes and general loss of skin tone on sun exposed areas can be seen as early stages of photo-aging.
Rough skin texture can be observed in more advanced stages of photo aging. The skin will start to feel thick and leathery, dull and it may appear red with scaly spots.
Fine lines and wrinkles around eyes, mouth and forehead can be observed in early stages of photo aging turning into deeper set wrinkles and creases in more advanced stages.
Telangiectasias, also known as spider veins, can be found on cheeks, nose, forehead and neck. If untreated can turn into broken blood vessels as time progresses.
Principles of photo-rejuvenation
Neocollagenesis is a process in which new collagen fibers are created under the skin, replacing the damaged ones and filling the spaces where the fibers were destroyed, largely due to environmental factors. Laser treatments enable this process, letting the skin heal itself while reducing the wrinkles. At the same time, pigmented and vascular lesions are eliminated by selective photothermolysis, in which melanin and hemoglobin will be coagulated and necrosis induced. Using a low-energy and short-pulse broadband light, skin imperfections will be replaced by a newer and younger looking skin.

Sun-exposed areas of the skin, such as the face, neck, upper chest, hands, forearms and back of the hands, are the sites where these changes occur most often with sun being responsible for about 90% of aging on exposed skin. If you haven't been good to your skin over the years and you are starting to notice some or all of the above signs of photo aging and you are concerned with premature aging, you can do something about it. The signs of sun damage can be treated and reduced with a series of laser treatments accompanied with microdermabrasion sessions.
All of these treatments are safe, require no down time and when combined together, they are very effective in reducing the visible signs of sun damage by stimulating skin renewal, growth of new collagen and elastin fibers in the deeper layers of the skin, which contributes to slowing down of the future process of aging as an added bonus.
For best results a series of six (6) to ten (10) laser treatments are required. For maximum results adding a series of microdermabrasions and infrared light therapies is recommended.
